A passenger on the doomed Yeti Airlines flight travelling from Kathmandu to Pokhara on Sunday morning managed to film the final moments of the crash on Facebook Live, and from the looks of it, had no clue of the danger he and those around him were in.

Obviously, it’s an uncomfortable watch, so proceed with caution:

Jesus. Not a single human sound after the moment of impact, which I guess is reassuring in one sense – at least it appeared to be over quickly. It’s still so unsettling seeing this guy joking around with his buddies and being completely oblivious to what was coming. Seeing a man happy and smiling and flames engulfing the screen moments later. So sorry for these poor people and their friends and families.

The Times of India confirmed the man who did the filming, Sonu Jaiswal, was one of 72 passengers and crew on board who perished, having spoken to his cousin, who said:

Sonu went live on Facebook after boarding the flight to Pokhara

The live-streaming showed Sonu and his friends in a good mood, but then flames appeared before the streaming stopped.

A spokesman for Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority said a flight data recorder and a cockpit voice recorder have been retrieved from the site, so hopefully we’ll know what happened soon enough. Nepalese flying conditions are notoriously difficult because of the mountainous terrain and changeable weather conditions. There’s also a question mark over safety standards, with the EU banning Nepalese aircraft from its airspace since 2014.
