Will straight up tell you that I don’t think I know the names of any contestant in any iteration in the history of the Miss World/Universe/Country competition, but this is quite a nice story about how two women taking part in the grandstand event fell in love and are now married.

Mariana Varela and Fabiola Valentín won the competition in their respective home countries of Argentina and Puerto Rico and met at the Miss Grand International competition in 2020. I’m not sure what they’re actually competing for in that one, but both of them made the top 10 that year which is presumably when they started to hit it off.
I suppose it doesn’t really matter that neither of them won the title because they won each other’s hearts anyway. They announced the news of their relationship and marriage via an Instagram post:
After deciding to keep our relationship private, we opened the doors to them on a special day.

Well that’s a wonderful story isn’t it? I don’t know why but I always assumed that the people that took part in this competitions were as straight as an arrow as that seems to be what they’re promoting, but maybe I’m wrong and they’re fully LGBTQ+ friendly these days? No idea sorry.
Either way, it’s great to see a lesbian couple coming out and promoting themselves and the event for meatheads like me who don’t think that’s it’s moved on since the 1970s or whatever. Wishing them all the happiness.
