Everyone loves a good horror movie – especially when it’s coming up to Halloween – but sometimes the biggest horrors can be found in her own homes with the benefit of an extremely close up camera.

One guy who likes to capture these images is photographer Dr. Eugenijus Kavaliauskas who likes to take pictures of insects that are so close up that you can literally see the hairs and skin bumps all over their faces. His work came to prominence after he submitted the close up picture of an ant’s face that you can see above to Nikon’s 2022 Small World Competition.

Geez that is a bit much isn’t it? Love the way that he frames them so the legitimately look like monsters that could attack you and cut your head off and eat you even though they’re only a couple of centimetres big themselves.
That last shot of the spider earring the fly really does emphasis that some of these guys are stone cold killers though. Let’s hope that nobody ever manages to figure out how to use a giganto ray on them or anything.
