Always love a story about a woman moving across the world to marry someone she barely knows because they normally end so well, but this one actually might be a little different.

60 year old Deborah Babu was on holiday with her daughter in Tanzania back in 2017 when she found herself walking along Zanzibar beach and asked 30 year old tribesman Saitoty to take a picture with them. The two began chatting and the pair struck up a friendship that continued via the internet after Deborah returned to California – and it wasn’t long until Saitoty was asking for her hand in marriage.
She returned to Tanazania in 2018 and lived there until making their marriage legal in July of this year. Deborah now goes by her Maasai name Nashipai and still lives over there permanently – here’s what she had to say about their romance:
I never expected to find a husband and marry someone so much younger than me but he is the kindest and most caring man.
When he first brought up marrying me I thought he was crazy.
But my children and family said I shouldn’t care about the age gap as I’d been alone long enough and deserved to be happy.
It’s a very different life here in Tanzania but I’m happy.
Saitoty has been accused of only being with me for a green card which hurts because I know how little his desire is to live in America.
People ask if I adopted him or that I’m his grandma which can make Saitoty upset. We just like to focus on us and our happiness.
Well normally I expect these stories to end in heartbreak about six months after they begin, but this one actually sounds like it’s going to work out. It doesn’t even seem like Saitoty’s after her money because she’s not THAT old and he doesn’t want to live in the United States either.
Hope they stay together and work it out, but four years together kinda makes me think they will. Mad.
For more of the same, check out this couple that were filmed shagging 1000 feet in the air on The Shard. Bit of a different vibe.
