I can’t even begin to wrap my brain around the logistics of a 14-minute standing ovation, but apparently Ana de Armas’s performance in ‘Blonde’ was so good that people really stood up and clapped for nearly a quarter of an hour as Ana broke into tears and lapped it all up.
Here’s a short clip of that moment:

I really don’t think the hype for this film could be any bigger at this point. There’s already been all sorts of talk over the NC-17 rating and how the film is ‘too sexual’ for Netflix, where it will finally be released later this month. At the end of the day it features arguably one of the most beautiful women in the world playing the most iconic sex symbol in history, so of course expectations are going to be high.
Still, a 14-minute standing ovation? I’m not sure you could save the world from a literal alien invasion and get that long of an applause. Imagine how awkward it would be just having to stand there while people clap for you for 14 minutes straight? Look at the dude standing next to Ana de Armas – even he’s had enough:
Is that 3 minutes in? 5 minutes in? 13 minutes in? It’s anyone’s guess. I wouldn’t have blamed him if he just walked straight out of the cinema, got in his car, and drove home while sobbing. The man’s all clapped out for the night.
Anyway, as I say, HUGE expectations for ‘Blonde’ at this point. From the POV of the audience at the Venice Film Festival, it’s well worth the wait.
