With the climate crisis causing record heat and drought, people are getting very mad at celebrities like Taylor Swift whose annual carbon footprint is around 1,185 times the average person’s. According to Yahoo, Swift has flown in her private jet 170 times this year already. That’s 22,000 minutes in the air! The equivalent of 16 days! Which makes her one of the ‘worst private jet CO2 emission offenders’ on the planet, despite lecturing all the rest of us on how to limit our carbon footprints.

So with all this backlash, did Taylor Swift own up to her hypocrisy and promise to do better? Oh no no no no no. She had one of her representatives offer up one of the finest excuses I think I’ve ever heard. You see, Taylor Swift wasn’t even on most of those 170+ flights, because she regularly loans out her private jet to her poorer friends! Duh!

“Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.”

You hear that, morons? Just because Taylor Swift is rich enough to own a private jet, it doesn’t mean she’s on it 24/7. Taylor, out of the goodness and kindness of her heart, regularly lends her jet to other people. She’s basically running her own private airline for her less wealthy buddies. We should be handing her humanitarian awards, not chastising her for raising carbon emissions.

I guess that’s why Taylor Swift employs her PR people – to put incredible spins on any negative publicity she receives even when it’s entirely warranted. I mean it is her private jet whether she’s on it or not. It’s still being used. Imagine 170+ flights with thousands of individual passengers Vs 170+ flights from one person’s private jet being responsible for the same emissions. Imagine the entire footprint of the tours she puts on, the thousands of people that travel there, the production, the travel for the staff, the people she employs, etc. I’m not even mad about any part of it except the hypocrisy of it all. We shouldn’t have to hear Taylor Swift or Leo DiCaprio or any private jet flying celebrity talk to use about climate change ever again. But let’s be honest – we probably will.
