The parents’ race at school sports days are always a tricky time as it’s a balancing act between looking like a hyper competitive knob or a total loser if you can’t really compete.

25 year old Katie McDermot definitely falls into the former category after a video of her pushing an opponent over on the way to a gold medal went viral over the weekend. You can watch that below and see what Katie had to say about the incident underneath that:

I told my daughter I would be number one, so I had to be!

I could see she was winning – so I just gave her a quick nudge and she took off in the air.

I don’t know what possessed me to do it, I was just thinking about how I wanted to win so badly!

I didn’t know the mum very well – everyone was shocked but we just carried on as normal afterwards.

If you see this, sorry that I pushed you – I didn’t mean to send you flying!

I don’t regret it, though, because I won!

Yeah, I suppose it’s cool that she kept her promise to her daughter, but I’m not sure if ‘win at all costs’ is the lesson that she wants be imparting on her. Let’s see how she turns out.
