In 2022, every PR-savvy celebrity’s worst nightmare is to wake up to discover they’ve been associated with someone accused of sexual assault. Keeping such company, even if only in a working capacity, can result in professional and financial ruin!
With that in mind, Beyoncé has decided to cover her bases as she continues work on her seventh album, ‘Renaissance’, due to drop on July 29. The NY Post is reporting that she’s running #MeToo checks on artists and producers and anyone even remotely involved with the album to ensure their stink doesn’t rub off on her. Apparently, she’s already had to reject two ‘high-profile’ artists from appearing on the album.
In fairness, Beyoncé has been stung on this front before. Music producer Detail, who won a Grammy in 2015 for co-writing Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s smash hit ‘Drunk in Love’, was accused of sexual assault in 2020. Detail has always denied the allegations, but there’s no way Beyoncé is gonna risk working with him again. An insider said:
“Beyoncé was devastated when she found out Detail, one of her collaborators, was accused of rape and sexual assault.
She stopped working with him and her team now run #MeToo checks on any potential collaborators. Two songs from high-profile artists have been rejected because of allegations they are facing.
Although neither has been found guilty, she’s sending a clear message to the industry in the wake of troubling cases from people like R Kelly and Harvey Weinstein.”
Smart move, I guess. Will be interesting to see if people like Jay-Z or Drake make the album and if they manage to get past the #MeToo checks. Who knows? It might even end up being a solo album with Beyoncé producing all her own beats, the way things are going. You really can’t play it safe enough. Not that there’s anything in this world Beyoncé could do that they #BeyHive wouldn’t immediately forgive her for, but it’s a good bit of PR for her in any case.
