The fallout from the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial continues and Depp is doing his best to reclaim the narrative by releasing a song with lyrics that can definitely be applied to his recent situation, even if he’s claiming that the song is about someone else entirely.

‘This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr’ is taken from Depp and Jeff Beck’s forthcoming album ’18’ and tells the story of Austrian-born actress Lamarr, who rose to fame in the 1940s and then swapped a Hollywood career for one in technology during World War Two. However, a lot of the lyrics can clearly be interpreted as references to Depp’s recent troubles with Heard – here’s a bit of a selection:
Erased by the same world who made her a star…
The light of her being, her exotic allure / Was torn at the seams for daring to dream / It’s so hard to speak when you’re frozen in scream… Feels like a dream, but it’s life and its death.
I don’t believe, I can’t believe, I won’t believe humans any more.
It’s so hard to talk when no one will hear, and everyone stares as you quiver in fear.
Yeah, there’s definitely something going on in that isn’t there? It seems kind of weird that Depp would write a song about some old Hollywood actress as well, but I suppose it’s a good way for him to avoid getting sued and getting into another court case. Not just a pretty face.
Probably won’t be buying the album myself but I imagine it’ll probably go to number one all around the world because people seem to be so in love with Johnny Depp at the moment. It’s out on July 15th.
