I’m showing my age a bit here, but I’m sure some people reading this remember when one of the big highlights of the weekend was going to the video library and hoping that there was still a copy of the biggest movie that had been released that week left on the shelves (think ‘Speed’ or ‘Face/Off’) and you didn’t have to go home disappointed with something that you had never heard of before like ‘Night Of The Running Man’. Those were the days, right?

Video libraries were an essential part of the landscape in the 90s and 00s (and probably before that too) and even though Netflix et al is so much more convenient, we have lost a bit of the magic that came from heading up to the video store and browsing the shelves before picking up that movie that you always wanted to see. So it’s great to see this tribute to the video store that some guy just made on Twitter, featuring tiny clips from some of the best movies and TV shows of the 90s when the main characters ended up at the video library for whatever reason with ‘Dawson’s Creek’, ‘Last Action Hero’, ‘Beverley Hills 90210’, ‘Scream’, ‘Clerks’ and ‘Friends’ all making appearances.

Check it out and geek out on the nostalgia:

Sure was a time and a place wasn’t it? For everything we’ve improved since those days, can’t think that there’s a whole bunch that we lost as well.

For more of the same, check out the last ever Blockbuster Video in the world. RIP to one of the greats.
