The man, the myth, the shoe-selling legend – Al Bundy. Anyone who was anyone watched ‘Married… With Children’ back in the 90s, and now the show is set to make a comeback as an animated series featuring the entire original cast; Ed O’Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate and David Faustino.
According to Deadline, Family Guy executive producer Alex Carter has been working on the project for a year and is now pitching it to streaming networks. The only question is – how are they going to be able to pull it off and keep it as the same show? Because IMHO it simply can’t be done. Especially not in today’s climate. Don’t believe me? Here’s 9 minutes of Al Bundy simply coming home from work and talking about his day:
Those 9 minutes of Al Bundy telling Peggy about his day would result in widespread protests, riots, Netflix employees going on strike and everyone ever associated with the show being cancelled into oblivion. Ed O’Neill would literally never find work again. What a difference 30 years makes!
It does sound intriguing and we’ll probably check it out but let’s be honest – 2022 Al Bundy won’t be anything like 1992 Al Bundy. He probably won’t even be a depressing loser with a dead-end job, a crap car and a nagging wife. They’ll make him a superstar salesman with a great reputation and an amazing wife who actually respects him. Well, whatever they do, never forget the original. What a legend:
