There’s no denying that there’s somewhat of an obsession with Greggs over large cross sections of the population in this country, but it’s highly unlikely that anyone can stake a claim for being a bigger fan of the franchise than 27 year old Megan Topping.

Not only does Megan think that she’s eaten over 10,000 of the baker’s famous sausage rolls inter lifetime, but she also has nothing better to do with her life than attempt to visit every single one of the outlets in the country. As anyone who has ever been to some shitty town in the UK and seen at least two of them on the high street will know, that’s an insanely ambitious goal but she thinks it’s going to be a wacky/cool adventure.

Here’s what she had to say about her obsession:

I couldn’t be more excited. I work a lot and I wanted to do something fun with my life, so I thought, “Sod it, why not?” I think it will take a few years at least, but I’m game.

The sausage roll is the best thing Greggs does, hands down. I love it fresh out of the oven. I’ve been eating sausage rolls since 2005 when I was ten years old. I have eaten around 10,000 in total – if not more.

Visiting Greggs all over Great Britain and eating my favourite sausage rolls in every bakery will be the most fun thing I’ve ever done and if it gives someone else a laugh along the way, then that’s great. I never expected to be doing something like this, but here we are – it’s not half baked at all!

People might think I’m bonkers, but just remember that I will be enjoying ever single Greggs sausage roll I eat. So, maybe it’s not so mad after all!

I’ll be honest, I still think that’s kind of crazy because it’s not like the quality of the sausage roll is going to change if you travel 300+ miles to eat it rather than walking five minutes to your local Greggs. I just don’t see the point, other than for the banter obviously but it’s just not even that funny? Just loads of hard work and travelling for rewards that don’t seem that tangible to me.

I suppose I respect Megan’s dream, but I just think there are probably better things she could be doing with her time. You could probably say that about anyone though, including myself. Regardless, I wish her all the best and hope she completes her challenge and makes a timelapse video of her eating a sausage roll outside every Greggs in the country. Sure there will be an audience for that sort of thing.
