Alex Garland is one of those directors that usually has a completely unique vision for his movies (see ‘Ex Machina’, ‘Annihalation’, the TV show ‘Devs’) so it’s nice to see him turning his hand towards horror for his latest offering ‘Men’.

It’s kind of hard to get a grip with what’s going on from the trailer, other than it seems like a complete and utter nightmare for its star, the recently Oscar nominated Jessie Buckley. She plays a character who decides to go for a picturesque break into the English countryside following her husband’s suicide, where a whole load of creepy stuff happens and she’s confronted by a bunch of different characters who all happen to be played by Rory Kinnear and make it even more of a nightmarish fever dream.
Take a look at the official trailer below, along with the synopsis:

Following the death of her husband by suicide, Harper (Buckley) takes a solo trip to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal.
But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her.
What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears.
That looks like a trip doesn’t it? And very creepy and ominous.
I imagine that it’ll probably turn out to all be going on in her head and she’ll actually be in a mental institution dealing with some form of PTSD after her husband’s death, but hopefully it’ll be a wild ride before we get to that revelation. That is generally how these kinds of movies tend to end up isn’t it? Sorry for the spoilers if you’ve never seen one before.
For more of the same, check out the trailer to the ‘Karen’ horror movie that came out last year. Very frightening as well.
