So apparently Iago Kiladze was floored three times during his bout with Viktor Faust in Florida the other day, and managed to beat the count following the final knockdown in the second round. He seemed able to continue, but slightly staggered when asked to come forward by referee Samuel Borgos, who promptly handed Faust the win. The crowd booed the decision, and Iago threw a cheeky jab at the ref’s jaw!
Yeah OK, it wasn’t much of a punch, but still a lack of discipline on Kiladze’s part. Still, I’d be pretty annoyed too if I lost under those circumstances, especially if I’d only registered 1 win since 2018…
After being struck, the referee yelled:
What the f**k are you doing? Fight’s over!
A commentator calling the action said:
You cannot do this. That’s going to cost him money, you can’t do that, you can’t get violent with the referee.
Indeed you can’t. Although to be fair, referee Borgos was caught cracking up backstage afterwards, so it’s not like any real harm was done…
Ref was laughing after the fight… He’s gonna tell everyone he took a punch from a pro boxer for the rest of his life! LMAO pic.twitter.com/tzxa19armO

Some boxing fans are calling for Kiladze to be banned for life from the sport, which I think is a bit harsh really. Still, can’t be punching referees in the face – I think we can all agree on that. Even when the punch might be better described as a closed fist shove. Just take the L and move on.
