A former Worcestershire police officer who was jailed for attacking members of the public during the first Covid lockdown has been found dead at home, reports the BBC.

Declan Jones was sacked and jailed after attacking 3 people over the course of 4 days, including a man on a bicycle and a 15-year-old boy he wrongly accused of possessing drugs while on duty for West Midlands Police in April 2020.

Here’s CCTV footage of Jones’s rather unnecessary assault on a cyclist:

And battering a 15-year-old lad in broad daylight…

Jones was due to face another trial next year over a third incident involving a taser, but was found dead by his parents at their home in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, on December 28, after he was recently released. Jones spent 6 months in prison, which can’t have been easy; being a former cop and all.

A spokesman for the Independent Office for Police Conduct said:

We have been made aware of the death of a former West Midlands Police officer and our thoughts are with all of those affected at this very difficult time.

As such it would be inappropriate to say anything further at this stage.

Well, what can you say really? We all have bad days at the office but I’m not sure you can use that as an excuse when you’re a police officer who has beat up 3 people over 4 days for no reason. Clearly his behaviour was unacceptable and he lost his job, which was the right thing to do. It’s just too bad that he thought this way the only way out for him. Very sad all round, especially for his family and friends. Thoughts with his parents and those who loved him.
