‘Tiger King’ star Joe Exotic has been in and out of the news for the past eighteen months ever since the Netflix documentary series turned out to be one of the most popular shows of all time, but somehow I managed to miss that he had contracted prostrate cancer either before or during his stay in prison. Sorry about that!

Anyway, Joe has now decided to announce that the medical practices in the US prison system are absolutely awful (no surprises there) and he’s fairly certain that the cancer has probably spread to his stomach and pelvis and that he’s pretty much ready to die if it has. Here’s what he had to say:

I have been waiting for a colonoscopy and endoscopy since October. Medical treatment in a prison is worse than at any humane society for dogs.
They are concerned it is in my stomach and pelvis. I have not had any treatment or anything since May. I puke when I pee – the pain is that bad.
I’m losing weight all the time and the pain in my hip and pelvis hurts. I limp to walk. And my stomach has hurt for over a year.
When we find out where and how bad it is I will decide if I am going to do treatment. If it’s stage three or four I am going to let it take me.
This is crazy how they put people in here and just let you die.
The things that I’ve seen and the dead people I’ve seen wheeled out of here is outrageous and it’s time that our president and our politicians hear the truth.
That does sound pretty grim and even though I don’t think we should feel super sympathetic for Exotic considering the things that he got up to in his TV show – animal cruelty, hiring hitmen to kill his enemies, drugging young straight guys and pretty much forcing them to have sex with him all the time – it still kinda sucks that he’s in jail and not getting the medical attention that he requires. Not even 100% sure we can believe him to be honest, but it seems like he’s serious. I hope he doesn’t die from this as it feels like the ‘Tiger King’ deserves a better ending than this. Fingers crossed for the guy.
