For the uninitiated, here’s a quick Wiki description of Taci chi:
Sounds a pretty interesting method to take into a caged MMA fight, right? Since it’s all about defense and controlled movement, you’d be curious to see how a long-time Tai chi practitioner would fare against your standard MMA fighter.
Well, wonder no more…
Welp, I guess ‘inner peace’ is not really that useful when it comes to someone swinging a fist at your face. When I first saw the video I thought we were going to get a Tai chi masterclass on how to evade or manipulate your opponent’s strikes and takedowns, but nope, the guy barely lasted 10 seconds in there. One punch to the face and he’d completely had enough.
It reminded me a lot of one of the all-time classic internet videos – the “energy shield master” inviting a martial artist to punch him in the face with the idea that his “energy shield” would protect him:
Huh, I guess you can’t really create invisible force fields by waving your arms around in the air while meditating. Still, you don’t know if you don’t try, right? Nothing like a punch in the face to bring you back down to reality.
