The backlash against cancel culture is coming thick and fast these days and the latest celebrity to stand up to it is former MMA fighter and star of ‘The Mandalorian’ Gina Carano.

In the past couple of weeks, Carano has shared several conservative opinions via her Twitter account, including an anti mask tweet and one about ending mail fraud in the election process (perhaps important to note this was written on the day of the election and before Trump started going crazy about it all). You can take a look at those below:
We need to clean up the election process so we are not left feeling the way we do today.
Put laws in place that protect us against voter fraud.
Investigate every state.
Film the counting.
Flush out the fake votes.
Require ID.

Not really that bad are they compared to what some people out there are saying and claiming, including the current President of the United States.
Anyway, a lot of people still weren’t happy about Carano saying stuff like this and decided to tweet their own opinions about what she was saying and attempt to get her fired from her role in ‘The Mandalorian’ because of them. It wasn’t long until the hashtag #FireGinaCarano was trending on Twitter and obviously Carano became aware of this, deciding to respond by sharing a bunch of memes implying that she wasn’t going to listen to anyone calling her out or apologise for her opinions:

Well, I gotta say that I don’t really necessarily agree with all of Carano’s opinions but as the saying goes, she definitely has a right to express them and probably doesn’t deserve to lose her job over them as they’re not particularly harmful to anyone. I suppose you can argue the anti-mask ones are dangerous because it’s spreading a false narrative, but there are so many people going around saying this that she hardly deserves to be singled out for it. It’s also possible that her post can be interpreted differently anyway, so she can kinda get away with it as well if anyone did delve into it.
So ultimately I’ve really gotta respect her for staying true to her beliefs and not backing down in light of her internet cancellation. Sure, she might lose a few fans and maybe even her job/further roles (although this doesn’t seem that likely at the moment) because of them, but at least she’s still got her integrity, right?
Seems like more and more people are taking this course of action and doubling down on their beliefs these days instead of apologising for them – especially when they’re not even that problematic like these ones – so could cancel culture finally be turning a page? Stay tuned.
