A major incident was declared in Birmingham on Saturday night after news emerged that a whole bunch of people had been stabbed in the city centre.

It was pretty unclear what had happened with conflicting reports emerging of a bunch of fighting and stabbing, but it was later clarified that there was one lone knifeman who had murdered one person and stabbed at least seven others as he made his way through the city attacking anyone that moved during a 90 minute rampage. A picture of the suspect was released late last night and it’s now being reported that he was arrested at a house in Selly Oak at 4am this morning.
Birmingham Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Steve Graham, explained how he was caught:

Officers worked through yesterday and into the early hours of this morning in a bid to trace the man we believe responsible for these terrible crimes.
We issued CCTV footage of the suspect and had a strong response from the public. I’d like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and who provided information to the investigation.
One line of enquiry ultimately led us to an address in the Selly Oak area this morning where a man was arrested.
Clearly this is a crucial development but our investigation continues.
We still need to speak to any witnesses who saw what happened who’ve not yet spoken to us, or anyone who may have video footage or photos of the incidents or the attacker.
We have a hotline number and a dedicated web page where you can submit information, photos and videos.
What do you know, the system works! Obviously it seems there’s a lot more to this than what we know at the moment and it’ll be interesting to find out this guy’s motives and reasoning for his actions.
Apparently he was very cold and calculating when he was carrying out the stabbings and the fact that he just presumably went back to his house in Selly Oak to wait it all out makes it even more intriguing. What is going on with the guy?
