We brought you the news a couple of weeks ago that Neve Campbell was in talks to star in a new instalment of the ‘Scream’ franchise and now we’re hearing that David Arquette will also be returning to play hapless police detective Dewey Riley.

The news was revealed by Arquette himself, who said the following to The Hollywood Reporter:

I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new.

Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honouring Wes Craven’s legacy.

Yeah, that sounds positive doesn’t it? Just need to get Courtney Cox back now and some weird previously recorded video tape of Jamie Kennedy in there to have the whole gang back together.

Obviously, this is the first ‘Scream’ movie since the death of Wes Craven so he won’t be behind it, but it’s also been announced that Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be helming the new film. They directed last year’s ‘Ready Or Not’, so it would seem that they have some of the credentials to make this a worthwhile return for these characters. You’ve gotta think that Campbell and Arquette wouldn’t be coming back if they weren’t hopeful of it turning out well at least, right?

No news on a release date yet, but it’s hope that principal photography will begin in Wilmington, North Carolina later in the year, so it looks like it’s definitely going to happen at least. That’s something.

For more of the same, check out what the original Scream cast are up to now. Maybe get Skeet Ulrich back as well?
