Superstar street artist Banksy is never far away from the media and nobody ever really knows what his next move is going to be, but I doubt any of us thought that he would opening up his own online shop anytime soon given his views on consumerism.

As ever with Banksy, this is a little different to most other online stores and it all relates to the fact that the artist is currently in dispute with a greeting card company who are trying to contest his trademark and take control of his name and brand so that they can sell fake merchandise legally. The best way Banksy thought to demonstrate his trademark was to open up a fake shop in South London and also to open up this online store, where almost every item is ridiculously cheap and will be raffled off to people that declare their interest.
Here’s how it works (from the site itself):
The shop is not first come, first served. Due to the limited number of products currently available we are opening a registration system.
You have until 28th October to browse the shop and register your interest to buy a product.
Please pick one item only, then enter your details and answer the question.
Entrants will be selected at random and offered first refusal to make a purchase within 7 working days with a secure way to pay.
This is not a proper shop – it is an actual shop, it sells stuff and offers refunds and complies with data protection – but all the products are made in an art studio, not a factory.
Everything is produced by a handful of people using recycled material wherever possible in a workplace culture of daytime drinking. So there isn’t loads of it and it’s not all ready to ship straight away.
You are advised that GDP may prove to be a disappointing retail experience – especially if you’re successful in making a purchase.
I mean that sounds like a pretty good idea although it does sound a bit iffy about it being disappointing if you’re making a purchase. I don’t think Banksy would scame me and not get my item to me, but maybe if he’s saying that ahead of time he is just trying to scam some richass people out there and make an example of them?
Kinda confused about the whole concept to be honest, but if you want to check it out and decide for yourself then click here. Otherwise, check out Goldie accidentally revealing Banksy’s true identity. Whoops.
