Everybody knows that it’s important to utilise all forms of media in an election campaign to ensure that you’re tapping up every demographic, and one of the most important of these is video. Unfortunately, you’ve also got to utilise video well if you want it to make a difference.

Step up Tory candidate for East Yorkshire Greg Knight. Greg and his team decided to make a short campaign video aiming to get him re-elected this year and well, it’s probably best if you just take a look at it yourself without any expectations, because it really is something:

Wow. I mean I get that the dude is pretty old but surely he must employ someone under the age of 40 on his team to tell him everything about that video was a complete and utter disaster. Here are just a few observations of all the terrible things about the 40 seconds of film:
- That sweet sweet sweet 240p resolution
- Wearing clothes that make him look like a giant
- Weird dramatic entrance through an open door like he’s in a school play
- Computer print out picture of Greg Knight stuck on the wall by the door as he walks in
- Weird bald guy in a green jumper on the right at the beginning that literally isn’t doing anything and is never heard from again
- Gives absolutely no reason to vote for him and just repeats Theresa May’s sound bites – useful
- The way the camera wobbles when he says ‘strong and stable’. Smooth
- That song at the end. I mean really?
- The way the whole thing looks like an A-Level media studies project from 30 years ago.
I mean seriously? How could anyone have honestly thought that this was a good idea?
The sad thing about it all really though is that even despite releasing this joke of a campaign video, Greg Knight is probably going to get re-elected as he has done in the past two elections. Maybe he shouldn’t be judged solely on his video, but when you consider some of his actions when in power, this really isn’t a guy I want to be in charge:
Generally voted against equal gay rights.
Consistently voted against the hunting ban.
Generally voted against laws to promote equality and human rights.
Almost always voted against a right to remain for EU nationals already in living in the UK.
Almost always voted for reducing housing benefit for social tenants deemed to have excess bedrooms (which Labour describe as the “bedroom tax”).
Consistently voted against raising welfare benefits at least in line with prices.
Almost always voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness or disability.
Consistently voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits.
Consistently voted against spending public money to create guaranteed jobs for young people who have spent a long time unemployed.
Almost always voted for more restrictive regulation of trade union activity.
Consistently voted for ending financial support for some 16-19 year olds in training and further education.
Almost always voted for reducing central government funding of local government.
Consistently voted against a transparent Parliament.
Generally voted for requiring the mass retention of information about communications.
Consistently voted for mass surveillance of people’s communications and activities.
Generally voted against measures to prevent climate change.
Generally voted against greater regulation of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to extract shale gas.
Almost always voted for restricting the scope of legal aid.
Consistently voted for allowing national security sensitive evidence to be put before courts in secret sessions.
I suppose it shouldn’t be surprising that someone who is so out of touch with how to make a good video is so out of touch with reality in 2017, but somehow it still is. If you’re in East Yorkshire and want to vote for this guy on Thursday by all means go for it, but I think there’s enough information within this post to convince you otherwise. I mean the video alone means he should lose your vote, let alone the other stuff.
