A NASA spacecraft has managed to capture an incredible image of our planet, taken from 870 million miles away.

The image, which was pictured between the rings of Saturn, shows Earth as a tiny little spec, with our moon an even smaller dot beside it. It also shows Saturn’s A and F rings.
It’s a great shot, although slightly bittersweet when you consider Cassini’s future. After nearly 20 years of travelling through space, the spacecraft is set to begin its ‘Grand Finale’ dives shortly, in which is will launch through Saturn’s rings a total of 22 times before crashing into Saturn on September 15th 2017. The final act will completely destroy the spacecraft.
Nevertheless, it has already achieved more than scientists could ever have hoped when it was released back in 1997, with the above image being one of its many accomplishments. It’s incredible to see Earth from such a long distance away – it certainly makes you realise how insignificant we really are.
