It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Jim Carrey, but it turns out there’s a very good reason for his lack of public activity – he’s been preparing for his next film role by getting trippy on magic mushrooms.

Carrey is set to play Terence McKenna in ‘True Hallucinations’. Terrence was an American ethnobotanist, mystic, psychonaut, lecturer, author, and an advocate for the responsible use of naturally occurring psychedelic plants. The film itself will discuss the perceived knowledge of time, life and the imagination.

Carey expressed his desire to fulfil the role, making an observation on modern life, saying:
Much of the problem of the modern dilemma is that direct experience has been discounted and in its place all kinds of belief systems have been erected.
The deeper you go into the psychedelic dimension the bigger it gets. I’ve seen things which no human being has ever seen before, and no other human being will ever see again. I retreated to nature and I took five grams of dried mushrooms in order to prepare for this role.

What a dude. In a world where drug laws remain strictly in place, it’s refreshing to hear of such a high profile actor being so open and candid about the benefits of psychedelics and the human experience.
