It’s well documented that former Blink 182 frontman Tom DeLonge is obsessed with aliens and attempting to prove their existence – he even claims that’s why he left the band, although his bandmates say they kicked him out. But most people seem to just view this as him being a complete and utter whackjob. Understandable really.

Apparently though, within the scientific community this is a different story. It was widely reported last year via WikiLeaks that DeLonge was in contact with Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta about exposing a government UFO conspiracy, and because of this he’s now been awarded the title of ‘UFO Researcher Of The Year’ by some YouTube channel called Open Minds TV.
No idea if this is a yearly award or if it even carries much merit within the UFO researching community, but DeLonge seems pretty stoked on receiving it, as you can see from his acceptance speech in the video below:
Thank you for acknowledging some of the hard work I’ve been putting in to some subject matter that concerns us all and that you’re passionate about, just like I.
It’s been a crazy whirlwind of a year or two. There’s a lot that I can’t say but some that I can. I’m so appreciative that I’ve been acknowledged for this stuff but I’m not done. I’m just like you guys. I spent 20 years up all night, reading about Roswell, Dulce, Serpo, Churchill, the crashes here, Nazis building craft there, Antarctica, what’s on Mars, what’s on the back of the moon, anomalous structures. I mean, I’ve done it all. I know it all. I kind of use some of my notoriety to do something pretty ambitious and it worked. A lot of people doubted me and thought I was crazy but I’ve got some big shit planned.
There’s going to be an announcement in the next 60 days. I need you guys to come along for the ride… If you come along for the ride, it’s going to be pretty fantastic.
Geez, he sounds a bit like Donald Trump in that speech doesn’t he? I’m not sure if anyone is convinced of his sanity or legitimacy thanks to this award, but there’s no doubt in my mind that whatever his announcement is going to be is at least going to be interesting. Although it’s probably just going to be a new Angels and Airwaves song or something. Like we need any more of that crap.
To be fair though, maybe it’s a good thing he started focussing on this and left Blink 182. Their performance at Reading a couple of years ago was absolutely shocking.
