As we all know, local cuisine varies drastically depending on what region of the world you’re in. But if you smoke weed, one thing that unifies you to every stoner around the world is the universal phenomenon of the munchies.

While everyone will share that insatiable need to eat everything in the vicinity as soon as those hunger pangs hit, everyone’s got their own way of satisfying it. We thought it would be interesting to see what different countries consider munchie food and you never know, it might give you some inspiration for the next time you get blazed:
Brazil: Pastel

Thin crust pies with assorted fillings ranging from meat and cheese to chocolate and banana, all deep fried to create a delicious, greasy treat. Sort of like an adapted, giant wonton.
Sweden: Kebab Pizza

Yes, you read that right. Sweden’s favourite munchie food consists of a pizza topped with kebab meat. Why didn’t we think of that?
China: Jianbing

Jianbing is China’s favourite street breakfast and is also an ideal hunger filler when you’re feeling blazed. This crispy fried crepe is made from eggs and flour and can be filled with a variety of toppings including chilli and hoisin sauce, diced pickles, spring onions and crispy wontons. Boom.
South Africa: Boerwors Roll

If you ever visit South Korea you will be surprised at how many fried chicken joints line the streets – they’re everywhere. Korean fried chicken is a lot lighter to American batter, and comes in a variety of sauces including BBQ or, as the locals eat it, very, very spicy.
Germany: currywurst

Mexico: Churros

Of course Mexico has a lot to offer in terms of deliciously satisfying food, but we thought we’d go with churros because there ain’t anything better than long sticks of sugary, fried doughnut pastry with chocolate dipping sauce when you’re high.
Iran: Persian pizza

Pizza in Iran is unique in that it is typically heavy with the toppings and thin with the crust. It is usually filled to the brim with beef sausage, bell pepper, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and Persian spices. Stop drooling.
India: Bhurji Pav

On the healthier end of the munchies variety, Bhurji Pav – one of Mumbai’s most famous fast foods – consists of Indian scrambled eggs, made spicy and filled with veggies. To give it that stoner edge you could team it with bread or with rotis.
Australia: Meat pies

This is sort of like the Australian version of a Cornish pasty. It’s a hand-sized meat pie made of diced or minced meat and gravy, sometimes with added veggies or cheese. This treat is ideal for stoners on the go.
Kenya: Mandazi

Another sweet snack, this time in the form of a popular Kenyan dish called Mandazi. These warm little doughnuts are typically enjoyed with a cup of tea – I wonder if you can dunk them like you can with chocolate Hobnobs?
Italy: Porchetta sandwich

Porchetta is a cut of pork roast that can be described in three words: salty, fatty, moist. Now chuck some of these cuts into some crusty bread with a bit of greenery and you’ve got the sexiest goddamn sandwich known to man. Are you weirdly turned on, because I am.
