Just hours after pleading for people to stop with the Harambe memes, Cincinnati zoo, the previous home to the late gorilla, has had to shut down their Facebook and Twitter accounts due to the overwhelming amount of memes.

As you all know, Harambe was the male gorilla who was killed back in May after a kid fell into his enclosure. Ever since then, Harambe has become a bit of an online legend and in particular, the younger generation has used him as the subject of endless jokes and exaggerated tributes.
The zoo asked people to stop making memes of their dead gorilla as it was making it difficult for them to move on. However, this almost spurred people on further and they have since made the decision to shut down their social media accounts until the hype dies down.

Not amused by the memes, petitions and signs about Harambe.
Our zoo family is still healing, and the constant mention of Harambe makes moving forward more difficult for us.
We are honouring Harambe by redoubling our gorilla conservation efforts and encouraging others to join us.
Despite their latest efforts, something tells me that the memes are not going to end. After all, teenagers will be teenagers.
