‘Ghostbusters’ writer Dan Aykroyd must be feeling pretty bummed out at the poor response the movie’s trailer has been getting on Youtube. Luckily for him this isn’t the only project up his sleeve as he is also working on an animated TV series of the ‘Blues Brothers’.

It’s been 40 years since Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi debuted their R&B revivalist band on SNL as part of a musical comedy sketch. Since then the franchise has enjoyed the success of two feature films and now Aykroyd is teaming up with Belushi’s widow, Judy Belushi, to create a cartoon form of the famous musical comedy.
The pair will work with original SNL writer Anne Beats to launch the show. Thankfully the series will stay true to the original and will see Jake and Elwood Blues in a modern setting to once again carry out their amusing adventures in Chicago. Aykroyd said:
The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilising all-new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement – and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich.
Looking forward to seeing the two in a modern setting. I’m guessing a lot of fans will be skeptical because while the first movie was an absolute hit, the second in 1998 did not do so well. I think one of the main problems was that the late Belushi was replaced with John Goodman and it’s always a little tricky when you don’t have the original cast. Thankfully they have found a way around this problem by making the series as a cartoon.
In addition, it’s going to include classic soul, blues and R&B songs from the ‘Blues Brothers’ original SNL sketches, albums and films. Sounds like this series could turn out OK, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
