Following on from Conor McGregor’s shock retirement from UFC on Tuesday night, another theory has emerged as to why this has happened to rival the one we featured yesterday.

This theory comes from another journalist named Jonathan Shrager who claims to have talked to a member of Conor’s immediate family. Here’s what he had to say:
I've just had contact with an immediate family member of #McGregor, and it would appear the retirement tweet is to be taken at face value

#McGregor Update 1/2: Conor confirmed to my source (see earlier tweet) a couple of hours ago that he's retired

#McGregor Update 2/2: Conor informed my source that the promo tour was unrealistic; not just the presser, it was more like a mini world tour

So it seems McGregor wasn’t happy with the promo tour that would have accompanied the match. In fairness to him, he has been heavily focussed on his rematch with Nate Diaz and avenging his loss against him – even dropping out of the filming of the new xXx movie so he could fully concentrate on his training. It’s not surprising that he wouldn’t have been too enamoured with the prospect of a huge world tour getting in the way of his preparation, even if he was going to earn a massive payday as a result of it.
Of course, it could all be about the size of the payday, but these are all interesting theories regarding one of the most shocking moments of the year so far. No doubt we’ll get some more answers in the coming days. If you missed the first theory we featured yesterday about McGregor’s retirement, click here.
