Red Dead Redemption is still viewed by many as one of the best games ever released, but unfortunately that was about six years ago and we’ve been waiting for a sequel ever since. Sure, we got GTA 5 in the meantime but even so, we really wanted to get back on the saddle and blast through Blackwater again.

Sadly though we’ve never had any information about a new instalment in the series – until now that is. Last night, what is apparently a screenshot of the game map was accidentally posted onto the internet and quickly deleted. Of course, this being the internet, it got snapped so we can check it out below and see what we’ve learned from it:

Apparently it’s been officially confirmed as real by an anonymous source and it kind of seems legit from some of the features on it. If you’re familiar with the Red Dead Redemption original map then you would see that it’s set in some of the same areas with Blackwater and the Great Plains area both prominently featured, although the map has moved slightly east since that game.

You’ll also notice that the railway doesn’t exist and this has led to speculation that the game is actually going to be a prequel to the Red Dead Redemption as well, although no further details have emerged. There’s also a hell of a lot of water on the map, which suggests that there’s going to be some sailing involved with it too, which would make for an interesting addition to the game. New Bordeaux is also on the map and that’s a fictional version of New Orleans where the new Mafia III game is going to be set, which is also being released by Take Two Productions.

Although there still hasn’t been any official announcement that Rockstar are working on the game, aside from the confirmation of the legitimacy of the map by this anonymous source, it would seem to make sense that they would be getting ready to announce it at E3. Stay tuned.

While you’re waiting though check out this live version of Red Dead Redemption in Madrid.
