Famous for their low-cost essentials, Aldi have been rising in popularity over the past couple of years. But that popularity may be about to take a sudden dive, after they announced a monumental recall on sixteen different products.

The retailer was forced to take action after the discovery that various types of their own brand biscuits, along with others, had been made in a ‘dirty factory’. The affected products had been produced by Baketime Ltd on behalf of Aldi, and concerns emerged over contamination when a pest infestation was discovered.
They are urging customers who have bought the products not to eat them and to return them to stores for a full refund. Here’s a comprehensive list of the affected products if you’re worried you might be about to cram a rat shit covered cookie into your mouth:

- Aldi Cheese Bakes
- Aldi Oddbites Cheese
- Aldi Oddbites Salt and Vinegar
- Aldi Oddbites Smoky Bacon
- Aldi Ginger Nuts
- Bestway Mini All Butter Shortbread
- Bestway Mini Brownies
- Bestway Mini Cheese Thins
- Bestway Mini Choc Chip Cookies
- Happy Shopper Cheese Thins
- Happy Shopper Fudge Brownies
- Happy Shopper Choc Chip Cookies
- LBV Potato Bakes Korma
- LBV Potato Bakes Mild Thai
- LBV Strawberry and Vanilla Biscotti
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) commented on the recall, stating the following:

Baketime Ltd is recalling various branded biscuit, snack and confectionery products on a precautionary basis as they have been manufactured in unhygienic conditions.
These products are sold by Aldi, Asvina, Booker and LBV.
All batches of the products listed below are being recalled as they may have been subject to pest contamination.
Baketime Ltd is recalling the above products as a precautionary measure. They have provided all their customers with point-of-sale notices for display in stores.
These notices will inform consumers why the products are being recalled and will tell them what to do if they have bought the product(s).
Whilst Aldi themselves had this to say:
If you have purchased any of these products, do not consume them.
Customers who have bought these products with these batch codes are asked to return them immediately to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.
No other batch codes are affected. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.
Honestly though, what did we expect? It makes sense that if you’re able to retail products for the prices that Aldi and similar do, the conditions that they’re manufactured in probably aren’t going to be the best. Is that going to stop us shopping there, though? Probably not.
Although, if Aldi’s conditions are this bad – just imagine the state of the easyJet factories.
