A 21 year old girl named Georgie Scotney has only eaten KFC for the past three years because she was completely and utterly terrified of trying any other food.

Her days would consist of the occasional piece of toast for breakfast, popcorn chicken or chicken strips and chips for lunch and then nothing for dinner. As delicious as KFC can be, that sounds like kind of a bland diet and pretty unhealthy too. Amazingly though, George wasn’t a complete fattie and actually managed to represent Great Britain in gymnastics.
Apparently it wasn’t her choice either but she was diagnosed with Selective Eating Disorder (SED) at an early age. Its sufferers find themselves unable to eat certain foods and only able to eat a certain group of ‘safe’ foods, sometimes constrained to one particular brand. In Georgie’s case, that was KFC.
Here’s her story:
Growing up I’d always been really stubborn with what I’d eat, it started off as just southern fried chicken and chips but it then got to the point where it’d only be chicken from KFC — I’d go there everyday without fail.
I was just never fed up with it, I loved to put loads of salt on it too, which I now see wasn’t such a good idea — I do think that it had a lot to do with me being scared of a lot of foods, especially sauce, that was the worst fear of mine.
When I decided that me and my boyfriend Dean would go travelling I knew that something needed to be done. We’re going for four months and I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat any of the food — I would have starved.
I had my initial doubts but I booked a hypnotherapy session with Felix Economakis, a chartered psychologist who specialises in SED treatment. It changed my life.
I warned everyone that I was so headstrong and thought that I’d never be able to change. After the session everything changed for me instantly, I tried new foods that I wouldn’t have dreamed of even going near before — and I actually really enjoyed them.
For about 15 years I’d always wanted to try a full English breakfast so the day after the therapy I did, and it was amazing,’ she says, adding: Never in my life had I eaten any fruit or veg and I’ve even managed to try a roast dinner now, I can’t believe that I missed out on so much.
I’d always struggled with my weight, even though I’d go to the gym every day, because of my poor diet so I’m hoping now that I’ll be a lot healthier and happier.
Well, it’s great she managed to sort it out but I don’t get why she didn’t just do it years ago? It was only an hour long session, what has she got to lose? Stupid really.
SED sounds like an absolute shitter though. Hope I never come down with that, unless it’s for something really delicious like grilled cheese sandwiches – check out these combo examples to see what I mean.
