A shop has opened in Sweden that is unlike any other shop in the world. That’s because it has absolutely zero employees, no money and it’s all run through an app.
Shoppers enter the store through the app, pick up their goods and scan them and then the app takes the cost directly out of the account. Obviously it’s run on the honour system because once in the shop people could just take whatever they want and not actually bother scanning it through the app, but the owner Robert Ilijason seems fairly happy with how this is working so far.
He originally created the shop because supermarkets close fairly early in many rural parts of Sweden so it’s impossible to get any day to day goods without driving a massive distance. At the moment the shop carries these basic household goods, but doesn’t stock any tobacco or medical supplies to try and minimise the risk of theft. It’s also open 24 hours crucially.

Well, you can’t deny that it’s a great idea and could possibly change the whole of society if successfully implemented in other countries.
Of course, there’s always the risk of theft, but Robert has a bunch of security cameras to discourage this, and is notified immediately when the door is left open longer than 8 seconds. Everyone using it has to register for the service too so he has details of everyone who ever enters the shop, so even if someone did steal something it sounds like they would be caught fairly quickly unless it was very well planned. Indeed, after two months of operation, Robert hasn’t had any problems with this yet.
Completely revolutionary – perhaps this is the way everyone will be doing their shopping in 30 years? I wouldn’t be surprised, I mean we’ve already got self tying shoelaces now, what’s next?
