Man, this kid’s story just gets worse and worse.

A few months back, we reported how University of Virginia student Otto Frederick Warmbier had been detained in North Korea for committing a ‘hostile act’ — attempting to steal a political banner from the country as a souvenir to take back to the States.

More recently, North Korean officials forced Otto onto state television to apologise to Kim Jong-un and the people of North Korea, and it was a pretty brutal showing in which he gave a rubbish excuse as to why he did what he did, but apologised nonetheless.

I guess it didn’t do him any favours though because Kim Jong-un has now sentenced Otto to 15 years hard labour for crimes against the state, North Korean officials have confirmed to CNN.

Former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson says he’s meeting with North Korean diplomats this week to lobby for Otto’s release.

Like I said in the previous blog about this kid, I have no idea how the US is just letting North Korea hold this guy prisoner. It’s been months already. Not only that, they’ve now given him possibly the most OTT punishment of all time which means they’ve got no intention of letting him go. Meanwhile Barack Obama’s bitching and moaning about David Cameron not doing his job properly?

Anyway, at least American tourists know how to behave in North Korea from now on. Say what you will about Kim but he sure knows how to make an example of someone.
