An Ohio man who leaned into the wreckage of a car and took a video of two seriously injured teenagers instead of making any effort to help them has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

41-year-old Paul Penton was sentenced six months to the day after the crash happened, after pleading guilty to misdemeanour disorderly conduct and vehicle trespass charges.
Police said Paul opened a back door and leaned into the wrecked video to record a video on his phone minutes after the crash occurred and captured images of both injured teenagers, one of whom later died.
He also called them “idiots” on the footage.
Police said other neighbours were trying to help the teenagers while this was all going on, and Paul did nothing to help. Police stress that the charge stemmed from him entering what was technically a crime scene without permission, not for taking the video or trying to sell it to news organisations after he posted it on Facebook.
Here’s a video of the judge sentencing him:
Pretty screwed up really. I mean even if you’re not interested in saving these kids’ lives, don’t open the car door and start filming people who’ve just had something terrible happen to them. That should literally be one of the last things on your mind. The fact he called them “idiots” on top of it all is just savage. At least call an ambulance or something.
But nope, all this guy could think of was getting a ton of views/likes on Facebook and possibly cashing in with the TV networks. 30 days in jail? I’d say he’s pretty lucky there.
Bit like whoever was taking these photos when the woman involved would clearly have appreciated some help instead.
