Ever since David Bowie passed away the other night, the Internet has been blowing up with clips and bits of information that go a long way to showing just what a stand-up, classy guy he was.

Here’s yet another example — David Bowie using his fame to challenge MTV in this 1983 interview with Mark Goodman, asking why the network plays so few music videos by black artists.

What an absolute class act.

Bowie also helped launch the career of Luther Vandross, who was his backup singer, then songwriting parter and was eventually given the opportunity to open for Bowie’s 1974 world tour.
