We told you way back in June that there were plans for a live action Crystal Maze experience in London after a Crowdfunder had exceeded its target, and it seems like these plans are all but confirmed now, as the opening date has been announced for March 15th 2016.

The Crystal Maze will open up in a 30,000 square foot warehouse somewhere in between King’s Cross and Angel in North London, with the exact location still top secret at the moment. The space is secured for three years, but the guys behind it plan to run it for as long as there is demand.

Tickets will cost £50 per person but there’s no details yet on how long a visit will last. Teams of eight will head around the four classic zones – Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Futuristic – before heading into the Crystal Dome itself to try and grab those stupid pieces of paper and win big money.

Bringing the Crystal Maze back in a live action environment was the idea of Ben Hodges, 29, Dean Rodgers, 25, and Tom Lionetti-Maguire, 28, but even though they smashed their Crowdfunder and managed to raise £930,000 the last six months of bringing the project to life have been pretty hard. Tom explains:

I feel like I’ve aged 25 years in the past 6 months.

It has been non-stop working on this for six months. I think people may have seen the crowd funding campaign back in June and then heard nothing and assumed it had all fizzled out.

But we have had difficulties with venue, with set, with all of it. But now we are finally here with a venue and work starting on the Maze and an opening date. It is exciting stuff.

It has taken us by surprise how much people seem to be behind the idea. It shows how many people were fans of it and how much of a demand there is so something different to do in London.

It does sound like it’s going to be completely wicked to be fair. The maze itself is going to be designed by some big shot set designer named Steve Scott who worked on Die Another Day, Titanic and Hellboy, so it sounds like it’s gong to be pretty impressive.

There’s also going to be street food (duh), a bar and a viewing platform so it should be an excellent day out, although it’ll probably be pretty hard to get a ticket to begin with. Richard O’Brien is set to play some kind of role in it too. It’s gonna be big basically.

If this doesn’t get you buzzed though in terms of your immersive experiences, why not check out the most extreme haunted house of all time instead.
