A man has been jailed for criminal damage after police stormed his flat and found bags of shit and piss all over the place.

36 year old Robert Kummer is a German national living in Cork, Ireland, and he caused over £10,000 worth of damage to the flat he was living in. The neighbours said they could smell it – and it was so bad that they thought there may have been a dead body inside – so they called the police.

The Irish Garda had been trying to contact Kummer for several months with no response and so went to his city centre apartment to chase up the complaint about the smell. Kummer answered the door, telling policewoman O’Donovan he had just returned from a trip to America. When she asked to see inside the flat, she was met with the sight of poo and wee. Everywhere.

Ms O’Donovan told the court:

On opening the front door the most bizarre and unbelievable conditions were observed. There was clothing everywhere and bags of excrement.

I could see excrement all over the bedroom and there were bottles of a yellow substance.

Firefighters and even CSI were called, but ruled out any serious crime.

Kummer, who worked for Apple, admitted intentional criminal damage to a rented apartment. He said that after his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he just stopped caring. It’s pretty sad, and there is very likely an underlying issue – especially as police discovered that the toilet was in perfect working order, just not being used.

It’s safe to say, his apartment isn’t quite as cool as this one.
