Continuing the trend that was started with unearthed Nirvana demos being discovered to coincide with the release of the Kurt Cobain documentary earlier this year, an unreleased Ice Cube only demo of NWA’s ‘Fuck The Police’ has been unearthed following the success of the Straight Outta Compton movie earlier this year.
It’s probably not really the much of a surprise that a version of the song exists in this format as anyone who’s seen the movie will know that Ice Cube wrote most of the group’s lyrics. What is a surprise though is that, much like the unreleased Kurt Cobain/Nirvana songs, is that it’s taken over 20 years for it to come to the attention of the general public. Just how the hell do these songs all stay hidden for so long?!
What we’ve got here is an entirely new verse of the song, which sees Cube drop the iconic ‘F*ck the police coming straight from the underground’ opening line for a completely different start to the song:
Stereotypes of a brother like me
Down with the n–as from the CPT posse
They callin’ me a thug ’cause I carry a piece
That’s why I say, ’F—k police!

In fairness that does sound pretty dope, although I think the original (is it the original now?) version is a lot better, but that’s probably because it’s been so ingrained on me for so long that to think of it starting any other way is sacrilege. Pretty good sacrilege though, don’t get me wrong.
