The world beard and moustache championships went down in Leogang, Austria over the weekend and these pictures prove that it was a whole new level of hipster beard and moustache over there. Not content with curling up the ends of your moustache or growing your beard really really long, these guys have put in an absolutely insane amount of effort in preparation for the competition to come up with some of the most outlandish styles we’ve ever seen.
It makes you wonder what these guys must do all year because you never really ever see people with facial hair like this walking around the streets, whereas you see other weird subcultures like cybergoths at least every now and again. I suppose they just hide away all year working on their pride and joy in preparation for their big trip to Leogang, which is understandable when you see the level that they need to compete against in these photographs.
It’s honestly amazing that this competition – and it is a competition because one of the pictures in the slideshow has some judges scores in it – hasn’t been transplanted to somewhere like Brooklyn, but I suppose we have to admire its roots and integrity in sticking to its guns over in Austria.
