It’s that time of year again when people start seeing other people posting these stupid statuses on Facebook which they think will mean that Facebook won’t be allowed to use any of their pitcures/information for whatever they want. These might be more popular over in the States right now but a couple of my friends were doing them yesterday, like so:

Guess what? In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, posting this up will achieve absolute zilch. Here’s what Andrew Noyes from Facebook had to say about this stupid PSA, way back in 2012 (which wasn’t even the first time it was trending):
We have noticed some statements that suggest otherwise and we wanted to take a moment to remind you of the facts – when you post things like photos to Facebook, we do not own them.
Under our terms, you grant Facebook permission to use, distribute, and share the things you post, subject to the terms and applicable privacy settings.

So, there you go. Basically if you don’t want people on Facebook to use your stuff, then you’ve got two options:
- Delete your account.
- Change all your settings to private.
The choice is yours, but do us all a favour and stop clogging our feeds with these stupid statuses? Posting them is only going to encourage more of them from the idiots on your friends list. Actually, maybe just delete them too whilst you’re at it.
