Facebook has been saying for years that a ‘Dislike’ button would never feature on Facebook as it would encourage far too much negativity, but as of today it seems they’ve changed their mind.

During a Q&A session earlier today, Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the company has been working on it in secret:
I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.
It looks as though they’ve realised that sometimes people want to express something other than just ‘Liking’, which surely should involve its opposite.

Zuckerberg added:
What (people) really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment.
Yikes — get ready for some seriously butthurt peeps around Facebook in the future. Obviously none of you will ‘Dislike’ any of our posts, right? Right?
Maybe just this one.
