A company called Vermont Novelty Toaster Corporation has rolled out a new product that enables you to get a selfie burned into your toast. And what’s more, it only costs £45, which I think is pretty reasonable for such an invention – if you’re actually deluded enough to actually want one that is.
The toaster works by getting you to upload the picture of yourself (or I suppose it doesn’t even have to be a selfie, it could be anything) to the Burnt Impressions website. The company then uses Photoshop and a plasma cutter to transfer the image onto a metal plate, which is then placed inside the toaster.
Once you pop the toast in, some of it turns out golden brown and some of it is burnt slightly more so it looks like your face. Result – it only takes about ten days to get it ready too, although it would probably take a bit longer to ship it over here.
The president of the company Galen Dively seems pretty pleased with himself over this invention:
This is a first in the novelty toaster world.
Before, setup fees and large minimums effectively limited personalised toasters to larger companies, corporations and individuals with deep pockets. We are creating a whole new market; personalised impressions on toast available to all.
We finally acquired the machinery needed to make it happen.
Gone are the days it cost me £890 ($1,500) just to add one new design to our catalogue. We are now limited only by our creativity.
We immediately got interest and orders. The response has been great.
Unfortunately I don’t really doubt that there are a magnitude of people that would like nothing more than to wake up to a piece of toast with a replica of their face on it. Kill me now.
