It’s known as “mok-bang” — a combination of the Korean words for “eating” and “broadcast” — and is basically what is says on the tin: live streams of people eating their dinner.
Using peer-to-peer live-streaming service Afreeca TV, Koreans are getting off on watching each other munch down massive amounts of food, and can even opt to pay each other as ‘thanks’ via a virtual currency called Star Balloons.
Nobody’s sure when this trend blew up exactly but sociologists are putting it down to loneliness and not wanting to eat alone.
One of the more popular broadcasters is a girl named The Diva, who will stuff herself full of calories all night for your viewing pleasure. She’s been known to polish off two medium sized pizzas in one sitting, and one night she managed 12 beef patties, 12 fried eggs, 3 serving of spicy pork kimchi soup and a salad — what a woman.
So is this what it’s come to for South Koreans? I know Asia in general is weird about its porn but come on — does this actually do it for some people? She’s not even doing anything sexual with the food.
I guess what with tentacle porn, anime smut and robot hand-jobs – it can only get weirder.
