Short Circuit
It’s a well known fact that Steve Guttenberg’s contract stated that he would only be relevant for the 1980s, so with that in mind good old Stevie churned out some timeless 80s movies including Police Academy, Cocoon, Three Men and a Baby and of course Short Circuit. The original premise for the movie was actually quite a good one, a military robot gets struck by lightening and develops an irritating child like persona whilst animal lover Stephanie Speck, whom he encounters whilst on the run, encourages him. Steve Guttenberg plays Newton Crosby PhD who invented the robots for peaceful tasks such as playing music (the first generation of boybands no doubt) but the bad military men want them as weapons. Cue mishaps, action and adventure as he evades the military whilst giving us food for thought on the meaning of life.
With news of a remake it might have been easy to assume that the film would take a darker tone as per the original movie pitch. Forget that shit, Short Circuit is getting so sugar coated that it will rot your teeth just looking at it. Tim Hill (Hop, Garfield 2 and the shitty Muppets In Space) has been helmed as director and is keen to focus on the family element, so no Johnny 5 going ape shit bonkers and killing everyone in sight!
