6. Otterhound
The Otterhoud is very capable in the water, as you might have guessed. It is a scent hound with webbed feet and a rough, double coat. The Otterhound is one of Britain’s rarest breeds of dog and was more endangered than the Giant Panda up until last year when 19 puppies were born within days of each other.
5. Neapolitan Mastiff
These dogs are serious — the Romans used to kit them up in body armor with blades so they could run under enemy horses and disembowel them. Raw. The breed almost became extinct at the end of WWII but an Italian painter set up a kennel to breed them with English Mastiffs, resulting in the aesthetic of ‘Fang’ from the Harry Potter films.
