The beauty of disease and infection is commonly overlooked while we cover the rotting flesh in bandages to keep the worms in. Here Tamsin Van Essen peels back that plaster nice and slow in these graphic ceramics. Using ‘foreign’ materials in the clay, Van Essen successfully created crockery fit for human use that echoes the DNA structures of cells more sinister like Salmonella and Streptococcus. Pretty. Pretty gross.
