Chinese medicine has a lot of mad ideas. Some of these involve the death of endangered animals and others are just mildly uncomfortable for the human involved. The following intervention fits into the latter camp. Chinese women, after giving birth, are required to sit down solidly for an entire month. That sounds pretty cool at first glance, but imagine actually sitting solidly for that long. BORING.
Some Chinese medicinal dipsticks have further rules which can include wearing a special hat at all times or not being allowed to show your hands and feet above the blankets of your bed. Other oddities include not being able to eat until you’ve farted for the first time after childbirth and not being allowed to wash at all for a month.
