5) The Ridges, Ohio
The Ridges is an abandoned mental asylum in Ohio. Bad things happened in mental health institutions back in the day. Sufferers were treated like animals and lobotomies were common place. In the bad old days of mental health, lobotomies consisted of what was essentially a small ice pick being rammed into the brain through the nostril or corner of the eye.
If anywhere was ever going to get haunted it would be a psychiatric ward. The Ridges boasts a haunted tuberculosis ward (above) and a Satanic cemetery which is nice.
6) The Riddle House, Florida
Built in in 1905 in Palm Beach County, Florida the Riddle House was initially used as a funeral parlour. In the 20’s Karl Riddle took it as a private residence for his family. One of Karl’s employees hung himself in the house and his spirit decided to hang about and haunt the place.
Over time all the other employees in the Riddle House got freaked out with unexplained moaning voices and the sounds of clinking chains; one by one they all quit. Once his staff had left Riddle had to leave too and the house was left deserted. The place was set to be demolished but was instead moved to Yesteryear Village in 1995, a historical park within the South Florida Fairgrounds.
I know it’s kind of daft talking about ghosts and ghouls when there are a lot worse things going on in the real world to worry about. For instance, would you prefer to spend a night in the Riddle House, or go through an actual real-life trauma like having a massive insect pulled out of your ear? It’s not such a difficult choice is it?
