2) English Language
A lot of fuss has been made about the currency and financial implications of Scotland going solo. These are complex and well described issues, but no one is mentioning their use of the English language are they?
If Scotland leaves Britain it gives up its rights to the English language. Yes, of course it can continue to speak and write in English, but it will now be taxed.
There will be a per word charge for any English spoken in public (private English will remain tax-free until 2025). Written English will remain untaxed until 2050, but road signs and public billboards written in English will have to be purchased from English businesses.
The industries that will be hardest hit will be call centres, whereas libraries should remain pretty much unaffected. The Scottish call centre industry will crumble as replacement offices spring up just south of the border. Masses of graduates will scurry from Scotland to the north of England every day to work in the relocated call centres. This will be great for the north of England but will crush Scottish purses.
On top of the business ramifications, schools will have to retrain teachers to speak and teach Gaelic. Only about 1% of the population currently speak Gaelic, because it’s a crap language.
